This Is Where We Walked

This exhibit provides an overview of people, places, and areas that were displaced as well as destroyed when the Kinzua Dam was built. A way of life that people had known and that was passed down to them by their ancestors was lost. The Coldspring Longhouse where traditional people met for ceremonies at different times of the year had to be relocated and rebuilt in Steamburg. Plant life that was an important part of Seneca lives was altered when the river banks were bulldozed. Family homesteads were burned down, sometimes with their possessions still inside.
