The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum has new and permanent exhibits on display that offer a unique glimpse into the rich culture and heritage of the Seneca people, past and present. Gift shop items

The museum's winter hours are Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy camping, boating, and fishing at High banks Campground in Steamburg. Located just five miles from exit 17 on the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86), Highbanks is minutes from the Seneca Allegany Casino, Allegany State Park, the Onoville Marina, and the golf courses of Ellicottville. Amenities at Highbanks include a swimming pool, playground, showers, laundry facilities, and a grocery store.

Annual Cultural Events:

Indian PresentationThe Seneca Nation invites native and non-native alike to join us in our annual celebrations of Seneca heritage and culture.

The Annual Seneca Allegany Veteran’s Pow Wow attracts dancers from across the country and features Native American arts, crafts, cuisine and traditional Native American Dance and Drum Competitions.  The 2010 Pow wow will be held July 17 - 18 at Veteran's Park in Salamanca, NY.  For more information, or photos from last year's Pow Wows, go to www.senecapowwow.org  

Fall Festival: Another opportunity to experience the rich culture of the Seneca Nation is at the annual Fall Festival, held the second weekend in September, behind the Saylor Building on Route 438 in Irving, NY. The Fall Festival includes a parade, art show, vendors, artist demonstrations, traditional dancing, sporting events, traditional foods and much more.

 

Libraries

The two branches of the SNI Library are affiliated with the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus County Library System. The two branches are open to the general public and are funded by the New York State Department of Education. Both locations are excellent resources for more information on Seneca and Native American culture, as well as genealogy.
